Sigma announced this new MC-31 PL to L-mount adapter for cinematographers

PL-L Mount Converter
Development of SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-31 announced

SIGMA Corporation (CEO: Kazuto Yamaki) is pleased to announce its development of SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-31, a converter that allows PL mount lenses to be used on L-Mount cameras.
By using SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-31, users can use PL mount cine lenses, which are widely used in the filmmaking industry, on the SIGMA fp and other L-Mount cameras.
A production version of this new product will be on display at IBC 2019, scheduled to take place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from September 13 to 17, 2019.

Launch: TBD
Price: TBD
Accessories: TBD

1. Shim adjustments
MC-31 has shim adjustments on two points of the mount. Adjustments can be made with a shim kit (included) on the camera side of the mount, or a shim for ARRI digital cameras on the lens side.

2. All-metal construction for excellent durability
With an aluminum-alloy body and strong brass mount and locking ring, MC-31 boasts excellent durability.
It is also designed to be secured on the mount of the SIGMA fp with a screw thread, ensuring an even more secure connection between the lens and the camera. This allows users to shoot steady without the lens rattling even after the long-term use.

3. Tripod socket
The removable tripod socket allows MC-31 to be attached to a tripod or other filmmaking accessories such as a camera cage.

4. Suitable for various shooting conditions
With the screw thread removed, the stopper of the locking ring is released. This makes it possible to use MC-31 with a PL mount lens that requires tighter mounting than the MC-31’s specifications, allowing the lens to lock securely in place on the converter.
The markings on the upper part of the converter are in the same luminous paint as the one used for SIGMA CINE LENS, helping make it easier to replace or adjust a lens in the dark.

(L5) First leaked images of the new Leica SL2 camera code named “Vader”

Nokishita just leaked this image of  the Leica SL camera. It has some small difference from the previous model (see it here). Now it has a near full body texture and a “ring” around  the mount. Also the grip seems to be slightly curved.

More important  are the changes inside:

– New 47  megapixel sensor
– Cine mode video
– 4K video

Code name of the camera seems to be”Vader” because of the low light capabilities 🙂

Announcement should happen pretty soon…

The Panasonic S1R Disassembly and Teardown by Kolarvision

Kolarvision posted their full Panasonic S1R teardown article. At the end their conclusion is:

The Panasonic S1R is an impressive machine inside and out. Panasonic has clearly decided to go there own way with the design of their first full-frame while still providing something that meets the requirements of a professional photographer, or at least one with very strong arms.

Panasonic interview at Imaging Resource

Panasonic manager Yosuke Yamane has been interviewed by Imaging Resource.  A couple of interesting info:

  • It’s been eight years since I decided to develop full-frame cameras. And officially, we decided to develop the full-frame camera two years ago.
  • The S1H was not delayed, but intentionally we put priority onto the photo-oriented cameras rather than video-oriented cameras. That’s the timeline.
  • The SH1 uses the same S1 sensor. However, we made lots of technical improvements to aid video shooting, such as a low-pass filter to reduce the moire, and Dual Native ISO for the wide range of color gradation. And in order to realize the 6K video, we made lots of improvements for the resolution and to reduce the noise, in order to fit the usage of video shooting.
