Compact, capable and imperfect: First impressions of the Sigma fp

Dpreview tested the Sigma FP:

My overriding impression is that it feels like Sigma has tried to address a videographers’ wishlist but perhaps doesn’t yet have the experience in video to make the implementation as elegant as it could be. But Sigma has promised a major firmware update. And it’s also apparent that there’s a lot of capability crammed into the fp, even before exploring one of its defining features by shooting Raw footage.

(L3) Will Panasonic soon announce the new DC-S5?

The Japanese site Nomadly claims to have found a Panasonic document accidentally listening a new unreleased DC-S5 camera. There was no info about the possible specs of the camera.

Panasonic stated multiple times that they are working on a new entry level FF camera. I think it’s highly possible we might get this one in autumn!

Operating conditions of the Blackmagic Design Video Assist 3.2 and SIGMA fp firmware Ver.2.00

Thank you for purchasing and using our products.

We would like to announce that the SIGMA fp firmware Ver.2.00, which was released on 25 June 2020, is now able to record in Blackmagic RAW via the Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12G model with its latest firmware update, Blackmagic Design Video Assist 3.2. This was launched by Blackmagic Design on 17 July.

Please note the phenomenon below, which is the result of SIGMA’s investigations into the operating functionality of a SIGMA fp when recording in Blackmagic RAW via Blackmagic Video Assist 12G, for which the firmware has been updated to Blackmagic Video Assist 3.2.

【Confirmed phenomenon】
REC trigger does not work properly.

SIGMA will continue to observe the operating functionality of the camera and provide any necessary firmware updates at a later date.

Topaz releases new Sharpen AI update: Auto masking can now detect 20 different types of subjects

Topaz released a new update on Sharpen AI. And for a limited time you save $30 (or Euro) when using our checkout code “RUMOR”. You can also try it for free for a month if you like to see if it works.

What’s new?

One of the new features will be the auto-detect masking tool to generate base masks. It can detect 20 different types of subjects, including people, cars, planes, and various animals. This feature can be accessed by clicking the “Masking” brush icon near the top of the screen by the view options and then clicking “Auto-Detect” in the bottom righthand corner.

Also we’ve added an “auto-detect mode” capability which will allow Sharpen AI to select the best processing mode for your image (from the Focus, Stabilize, and Sharpen modes). Each of those three modes tackles image blur at its root cause, but now users can let Sharpen AI choose for them. This update will allow users to take full advantage of Sharpen AI’s technology by requiring less user input to generate great results.

Those are just a couple of the new updates. You’ll find several updates to the UI design as well, new product tour and tutorial, as well as new fixes and additions throughout the product for a better experience.

You can use our checkout code “RUMOR” to get an additional 15% discount on all TOPAZ products (Click here). And you have this massive savings on the full Topaz Utility bundle ($195 off using our code “RUMOR“)
