Panasonic affordable compact L-mount Full Frame camera to be announced within weeks!

According to two reliable sources, Panasonic is set to announce a new affordable full-frame L-mount compact camera. This camera is intended for content creators–which means TikTokkers, Instagrammers and Youtubers. It will be priced lower than this Lumix camera to attract young people and people on a budget.

The camera does not have an EVF, has a fully articulating screen, and is very compact. I have no information about the sensor, but I suspect it will use the 24MP sensor from the S5II. Soon Panasonic will launch a teaser campaign for the launch and we will know on what day the camera will be announced (definitely still in May).

This is not a camera for professional photographers or filmmakers…not a Full Frame version of the extremely beautiful LX100. But don’t be disappointed. I have been told that new cameras will be announced very soon (maybe even in June/July).

So stay tuned 😉

CONFIRMED: Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 II lens will be announced on May 16

Sigma will announce the new lens next week on May 16! It’s coming for both Sony E and Leica L mount. The info I know so far:

  • 24-70mm f/2.8 II Full Frame lens for Sony E and Leica L
  • The new lens is more compact, optically sharper, has better color rendition, improved AF performance than it’s predecessor
  • Will be price a couple of hundred dollars more than the current 24-70mm lean (now $999 at Amazon).

Top 20 best-selling cameras in fiscal year 2023 on Mapcamera: No L-mount camera made it into the top

Mapcamera shared the list of the most sold 20 cameras during their fiscal year 2023 (April 1 2023 to March 31 2024):

  1. Nikon Z8
  2. Nikon Z f
  3. Sony α7C II
  4. Canon EOS R6 Mark II
  5. Sony α7RV
  6. Sony α7IV
  7. Fujifilm X-T5
  8. Ricoh GR IIIx
  9. Sony α6700
  10. Canon EOS R8
  11. OM system OM-1
  12. Fujifilm X-H2
  13. Fujifilm X-T30 II
  14. Ricoh GR III
  15. Nikon Z fc
  16. Fujifilm X-S10
  17. Sony ZV-E10
  18. Leica Q3
  19. Canon EOS R10
  20. Sony ZV-E1

The interesting (and bad) news is that no L-mount camera made it into the top. Hopefully the S5II will change that in 2024. But so far it looks like L-mount struggles quite a bit against the big three (Sony-Canon-Nikon).
