Sigma US price increases now official: +10% on all lenses

Sigma has increased the price of all its lenses. You can check out the new 10% increase on these pages at BHphoto, Amazon, and Adorama. In nominal terms the biggest price increase is obviously on the 300-600mm lens which now costs + $600.

Since the political situation is completely unpredictable at the moment, it is difficult to speculate whether tariffs will soon be abolished or whether the situation will worsen further with the introduction of even higher tariffs…

Curiosity: Hasselblad X2DII will have integrated Lidar…will Panasonic use this too?

I have just posted pictures and full specifications of the new Hasselblad X2DII medium format camera on MR and on my Youtube channel. The curious aspect that L-mount lovers should pay attention to is the fact that this camera has a built-in Lidar autofocus system. This was developed by DJI, which also has an official collaboration with Panasonic:

So we should pay attention to the release of this camera to see how much the Lidar system can improve the autofocus performance of this otherwise very slow medium format camera. Perhaps, if this new technology works wonders, we will also see future Lumix cameras with Lidar AF systems!

New Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 DC ART specs

Image on top shows the old and legendary Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens.

On June 17 Sigma will announce the new 12mm f/1.4 and 17-40mm f/1.8 L-mount APS-C lenses. Here are more detailed specs about this new fast zoom lens.

17-40mm f/1.8 L

  • uses aspherical elements made of SLD (Super Low Dispersion) glass
  • manufactured with advanced polishing technology to minimize chromatic aberration, flare, distortion
  • Aperture ring, with declick
  • sealed against dust and splashes
  • excellent sharpness from corner to corner already at f/1.8
  • HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus motor (fast, silent and accurate)
  • excellent control over focus breathing
  • Internal Zoom
  • Size: 115.9mm long, maximum diameter 72.9mm
  • 67mm filter
  • weight: 535g
  • Shipment start in July

So this lens is 5mm shorter, 5mm narrower and 275g lighter than the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens. And this despite it having 1mm more at the wide end and 5mm more reach at the tele end. Impressive!

Two Sigma APS-C lenses (including epic f/1.8 zoom) will be announced on June 17…four more FF lenses coming soon after!

Sigma continues to push forward with the release of new lenses, and today I have some exclusive, exciting news to share with you! On June 17, at the BildExpo event (register here) Sigma will announce new lenses:

I have to say that the 17-40mm f/1.8 is particularly exciting as it offers APS-C camera owners the light gathering ability and bokeh quality of an f/2.8 FF lens. Impressive! This lens will probably be optically better and more compact than the legendary 18-35mm f/1.8.

ONE MORE RUMOR:

Sigma is supposed to hold another product announcement event in August/September that will focus more on new full frame lenses. There are rumors of four new FF lenses, I don’t know if 1-2 of them will be unveiled or announced on June 17:

I should have more details on all of these lenses soon. Stay tuned!
